What is a Veterinary Assistant?

For many of us, our pets are more than just fuzzy friends; they’re part of our family, and we want to know they’re in good hands. That’s why vet clinics are looking for skilled, compassionate veterinary assistants to help ensure the best care for our companions. In fact, vet assistant employment is expected to grow much faster than average through 2034, adding tens of thousands of jobs.

Veterinary assistants are tasked with feeding and bathing animals, sterilizing rooms, handling animals during exams and labs, maintaining equipment, caring for animal post-surgery, assisting in collecting blood and other specimens, and more. They can work behind the front desk as well, interacting with owners, scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, and following up on care.
