What is Medical Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy has been growing in popularity as more and more people realize the amazing benefits it can have on your health. Trained massage therapists utilize a variety of modalities to manipulate the soft tissues and joints to help relieve pain, heal injuries, relieve stress, and support general wellness. And the rising demand is hitting the job market, with employment for massage therapists expected to increase by 15% nationally through 2034, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Studying medical massage modalities can further expand your job opportunities. Medical massage differs from regular massage in its purpose of treatment. While regular massage is focused on reducing tress and tension, medical massage hones on specific areas of body to help treat a medical condition or relieve symptoms. This includes trigger point therapy, myofascial release, deep tissue massage, and neuromuscular therapy.
